  • Under the Tuscan Sun in Firenze – Day 2

This (yesterday, wednesday) was our museum and sightseeing day. We began by visiting Florence’s most famous bridge, Ponte Vecchio Nearby was the Uffizi Museum. Getting tickets was bit of a hassle… First we stood in the ‘reservations’ line thinking we could reserve our tickets. No, that line was for those who already made online reservations. We found the right line to get tickets, but I would be at least an hour long wait just to get them. And then once we obtained our tickets we would need to wait in another line to go through security and get entrance inside. For an extra €6, we joined some ‘friends of Firenze art preservation’ association. So not only can we add this excellent organization to our resumes, we were able to skip the ticket lines and go straight to the entrance line. Three cheers for art preservation!!!

  • Under the Tuscan Sun in Firenze – Day 1

Before we got to Florence, Tammy and I had a dumb American moment. At first we didn’t make the connection that Firenze is the Italian way of saying Florence. And now that this confession is out of the way…

  • Capri

On Sunday we took a ferry and spent the day on Capri. It was a BEAUTIFUL day for an island adventure. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and the temperature boasted a delightful 80 degrees. Unfortunately we missed the excursion that was offered by our hostel (we have been having alarm clock issues) but it was nice for us to plan our trip on our own terms; not the hostel’s.

It was a very short ferry ride across the Tyrrhenian Sea to get to the main port. When I saw that island coming up from the distance, I was SO excited. I already knew that I was in love. Once we disembarked we immediately purchased a ticket to tour around the idland in a small boat with a group of others. This was SUCH a good choice. I wish I could show the photos I took on this boat adventure right now; this island is beyond beautiful.

  • Sorrento – Night 1

Tammy and I completely fell in love with Sorrento. So much, in fact, that we chose to extend our stay for an extra day. Due to this, we did some adjusting to our plans and came to Florence a day later and removed a day from our Paris plans.

If there was any place in the world that looked like a postcard, it would be Sorrento. The town is nestled on the coast of the Meditterranean on top of towering cliffs. Sorrento is well known for their lemons. Approaching the city was so awesome; alongside the train tracks were groves of trees dotted with bright yellow lemons. And yes, when we were there we did try some… so tart and wonderful!

  • Technology Fails

I have the WORST fortunes when it comes to technology. And this ill fate of technology blunders has followed me overseas. That’s why I haven’t updated for some time – tech problems.

  • Holy Cannoli!

There is much to update about! In this entry I will just do a basic overview and then go into more details in separate posts.

Yesterday was a very long – but incredible – day for Tammy and I. Our day began at 6:30am We packed our bags and made our way to Termini Station (the train station) to drop off our bags, activate our Eurail pass, reserve our train seat to Sorrento, and jump on the Metro to the Vatican. Navigating Termini took a lot of walking, reading signs, and trial & error but no worries – we figured it all out!

  • When in Roma

What a day in Roma!! It started out right with a chocolate-filled pastry (paste) from a cute Italian bakery on the corner. The sky was blue without a single cloud and the temperature reached a warm 80 degrees.

With missing a day of sightseeing yesterday, there was much to do.
